Menu digitalisation for a pizzeria
To solve the problem of a paper menu that had to be disinfected every time customers changed, La Tupi pizzeria asked our communication agency in Cantù to digitalise its menu, making it viewable on customers' mobile devices by scanning a QR code placed on the tables.
The most important technical decision was not to develop an app. At the time many venues were opting for apps to download, which created an insurmountable obstacle for someone who has just sat down at the table: scanning the code instead opens the browser directly, with no installation, registration or permissions to grant.
The menu lives inside the pizzeria's website, and this has two practical consequences. The first is that the venue updates it like any other content, without reprinting anything when a price changes or a seasonal pizza is added. The second is that the QR code on the tables always remains valid, because it points to a page and not to the content.
It is a solution born of a health requirement but still useful beyond that context, because it solves a problem that already existed: a pizzeria's paper menu wears out, gets dirty and goes out of date with every price change. For a venue whose offering changes over the year, the printing savings recur every season.
The simplest solution is almost always the right one
When venues had to solve the paper menu problem, many opted for apps to download. For someone who has just sat down at the table, with only a few minutes and perhaps a weak connection, downloading an app is an obstacle almost nobody gets past.
With La Tupi we made the opposite choice, building the menu on the existing website so that the QR code simply opened the browser. It is the practical application of one of the three values we work by, simplicity, and it has produced a benefit that has lasted over time: the menu is updated like any other content, with no reprinting at every price change.
Andrea and Luca, lifelong friends, had already been building websites for several years before giving themselves a name: NewVisibility, in 2013. Since then we have worked with more than three hundred clients. We are a team on a human scale: you speak directly with the people working on your project, with no intermediaries, even after launch.

By pointing the camera at the QR code on the table: the menu opens directly in the browser, on the pizzeria's website, with nothing to download.
No, and that was a deliberate choice. An app creates an obstacle that most customers sitting at the table will not get past: the browser is already on every smartphone.
Yes. The menu lives inside the website, so it is edited like any other content: price changes and seasonal offers require no reprinting.
No. The code points to a page on the website and not to the content, so it remains valid whatever changes in the menu.
Yes. It was born of a health requirement but solves a pre-existing problem: a paper menu wears out, gets dirty and goes out of date with every price change.
Yes, we work with several businesses in the Cantù and Como area, with both websites and operational tools such as menu digitalisation.
