Goodbye to Flash websites: in 2020 it will officially be retired
The technology developed by Adobe, Flash Player, has for many years provided access to images, videos and animations on websites. However, it has always been considered too heavy for any platform, especially mobile devices such as smartphones and tablets, which need light, fast websites. Fortunately, for a few years now most websites have moved towards the HTML5 standard and, in 2020, Adobe Flash Player will officially be retired.
Adobe took the decision after noticing that most of the big players in the sector have preferred to use an open standard such as HTML5, CSS3 and JavaScript instead of the heavy, outdated Adobe Flash Player. In fact, although it is still present and partly supported by Apple, Facebook and Microsoft, Adobe Flash Player has already disappeared from the main web browsers such as Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge and Safari.
With the abandonment of Adobe Flash Player, an era of mandatory plug-ins to support this technology on smartphones and web browsers will come to an end.
For many years NewVisibility, our web agency operating in the province of Como, has been using "lighter", more advanced technologies such as HTML5, CSS3 and JavaScript, combined with a responsive layout for websites, that is, one that adapts to the screen format of the device from which the site is viewed.
If your website still uses Adobe Flash Player, it would be advisable to update it or replace it with a responsive, mobile-friendly site, as we already suggested in a previous article, ahead of this important change.
