Our web agency's quick guide to using hashtags well for efficient marketing
Social media seem to be the most suitable platform for influencing potential customers, and for this reason many companies rely on social media marketing for their sales strategies, creating accounts on Facebook or Instagram to promote their goods or services. Are you aware of all the benefits social networks can bring to your business?
Many people overlook an important detail: hashtags. In this article the team at our web agency in Como wants to explain how to improve your web marketing strategy by choosing the hashtags best suited to your company.
But how do hashtags work?
A hashtag is a word preceded by the # character, frequently used on social media such as Twitter, Instagram and Facebook. They are used to categorise content and make it easier to find other posts on similar topics.
What is the best way to use hashtags in your strategy?
More and more users now search for information through hashtags, and brands should take advantage of this trend. To do so, you need to know that the platforms with the most hashtags are Twitter and Instagram, while on Facebook their use has never really taken off. On Twitter it is wise to be sparing, given the 280-character limit; on Instagram you can use a maximum of 30 hashtags and, in our experience, it is best to split them as follows:
- 8-10 very popular hashtags, i.e. used in at least 1 million posts: these are the most widespread hashtags, which allow your post to be seen by as many people as possible. Add them to your posts to be found while people search for topics related to their interests. Be careful, though: since these words are used so much, there is a risk of being quickly overtaken by other users' posts. For this reason we recommend using no more than 30% of the total;
- 10-15 medium hashtags, found in between 1,000 and a million posts. These are the hashtags that can give you the most satisfaction and make your post easy to find and popular. They are moderately widespread words relevant to your business.
- 5-8 small hashtags, i.e. niche ones. These are hashtags that are little used but strongly characterise the content of the post.
- 2 custom hashtags: these are your own hashtags, the ones that make the post personal, such as your brand name, your pay-off (don't know what a pay-off is? We covered it in this article!) or your product name. They will be your signature, short and easy to remember.
